Photographer Reloaded... Latest goings-on in the world of Danny Higgins Photography!
Painted ladies, Pink-haired Belles and lots and lots of make-up...
22/02/12
It is during a period of recovery that I write this. I've been told of the craziness of London Fashion Week, and was prepared for a busy week when our corporate event photography services were requested for cosmetics company Bourjoir UK, and it didn't fail to meet expectations!
With the brief to provide a fashion portrait photography studio for visitors to the Bourjoir pop-up Boutique in Shoreditch over London Fashion Week, we headed to Beach Blanket Babylon laden with lights and laptops ready for the 5 day event. We arrived to find a tight space allocated to us, and promptly reviewed our lighting situation to a simple but beautiful setup perfect to create the high-end portraits that Bourjois wanted for their guests.
Over 1000 visitors to the Boutique were offered a full hair and beauty makeover, then were to step into the studio for a portrait photography experience as a momento of their day. Every visitor was treated also to entertainment such as body painting, nail art and a fantastic fashion illustrator all free of charge! It was understandably popular!
Not only that, Channel 4 were also in the venue, filming their new T4 programme, 'Bourjois Boutique', hosted by Jameela Jamil, covering the comings and goings of LFW. Which meant our photography was restricted to periods between filming, as well as ensuring we didn't ruin continuity by such simple things as moving too much! Oh the glamour of live telly! Luckily, T4 were there only for the first and last days, and the rest of the weekend was free for us to make our visitors look beautiful.
So it was that from the start of each morning the visitors were queueing out of the door, with the promise of a free goodie-bag to the first 50 guests! Ladies of all ages, 5 to 65, Brazilian Beauties to Blonde Bombshells appeared for their fashion photograph, which we duly gave the fashion magazine look with a little touching-up here and there. The combination of a great makeover and some photographic magic meant everyone recieved star treatment and looked their absolute best. We uploaded each finished photograph to Facebook, letting guests tag themselves and their friends to like and comment on their new look. By the end of the event, our photographs had received over 1200 likes and comments... and counting! We even had the opportunity to photograph some Celebs, such as Cher Lloyd stepping into the Bourjois studio.
By the end of the Sunday, we were all shattered! The last day threw up a new challenge or two which we were pleased to make the most of! Group photographs of the whole of the team - around 30 - meant a change of venue and bringing my wedding photography groupshot skills to the fore! We also took the advantage to get creative with the body art model, and developed a plan for a moving video of the progression of Heather Sharp's fantastic body art as she worked on her most adventurous design of the weekend. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for the final result once it's complete!
And so it is that, with still more promotion and finalising of the job to do for our Client, we look back on our largest job to date with fond memories and looking forward to the new season at LFW....
Now, where's my moisturiser...?

Christmas parties roll on and on!
27/01/12
It might be nearly February, and for most of us, the decorations are back in the attic, the turkey leftovers are long gone, and Easter eggs are on sale in the supermarkets. But we're still photographing Christmas parties! Throughout November and December, Danny Higgins Photography were busy with christmas party events photography for company parties, as well as organised dinners in Bucks and Herts - professional fun portrait photos for those out for a great evening. But some hard-working companies have their busiest time just before the Holidays. So we're off to add a bit of festive cheer to a London marketing agency's 'post-Xmas' party, with a 1980's-themed party photography setup in Shoreditch. Out come the wigs and Santa hats... again! But we don't just photograph parties at Xmas... if you'd like to add a little extra at your next event, then give us a call to book us for bespoke event photography to suit your next party, dinner or ball. ...more
Best Man, Photographer AND Entertainment? Just another day out of the office…
26/01/12
One of my few weekends off, and I was on the road to Devon for the wedding of a great friend of mine. A few months previously, Rob asked me if I would accept the job of being his Best Man, which I accepted with pleasure. And so I started planning a speech. Then he called again... "are you bringing your camera?". I couldn't refuse also being the wedding photographer, and got thinking about how I'd photograph Rob (about 6 foot tall) and his demure wife-to-be (not 6 foot tall...!). "Oh, and your guitar - we're having a jam night in the evening." Rob's a great musician into his Blues, his wife a country and western musician. Having not picked up my guitar in many months, the weekend was looking like a toughie! The Best Man duties went well. And although the combination of windy and rainy weather and a massive proportion of the guests being under 5 meant the wedding photography was a challenge, we got some great photos capturing the day, as well as the music evening, where we got some great black and white shots of the myriad of musicians that picked up a guitar to entertain the crowd and locals. And the music? Well, it seems as though not playing the guitar for some time was no excuse for not playing for much of the evening! We had a blast, although with the wedding photographer otherwise engaged, unfortunately there are few pictures of me that night... you'll just have to take my word for it! A fantastic weekend off, although I was soon back to work for a break! ...more
Award-winning I Fagiolini is our latest live music photography client
20/01/12
We were honoured recently to be asked to photograph the superb I Fagiolini at their rehearsals for their latest recording. The rehearsals took place in a huge church, adding to the atmosphere of the piece. This latest live music photography commission is another in the increasing classical music photography jobs we've been asked to cover. ...more
Danny Higgins Photography help Aylesbury get Festive!
24/11/11
The new Kings Head studio opened with a bang last week, as we began our campaign to get Aylesbury into the festive spirit! With the aim to capture 1000 Festive Faces with portrait photography of 1000 Aylesbury folk wearing our jolly Santa Hat, we saw queues across the courtyard on Saturday as the campaign started to gain traction! We're already at 156 festive faces, with several weeks to go until Xmas Eve! See if you recognise anyone in our Facebook gallery
It's all in aid of charity - the Aylesbury Festival - who are gallantly bringing cultural music and entertainment to Aylesbury town. Following this Summer's inaugral festival, the aim is to raise sufficient funds to put the event on again in 2012 and beyond...!
So if you're passing, pop on our headwear and smile for the camera! You'll even get a Facebook image as a thankyou! ...more

Smile! We're now open for business!!
13/11/11
We are delighted to announce that our new Aylesbury Portrait Studio is now open in Aylesbury town centre!
Set in the historic grounds of the King's Head pub, we are now taking bookings for photoshoots from family portraits to Baby photography. Photoshoots cost from just £30, including a 9x6" print worth over £30!
Our setting is certainly a little different - a 15th Century coaching inn - and you'll find our service refreshingly different too! We won't rush your photoshoot - no quick 15 minute mugshots from us! And we'll listen to what you want from your photograph - we don't have a set roster of poses for every customer, instead we'll work to bring out your best features and personality with a fun, freeflowing sitting you're guaranteed to enjoy!
And after a relaxed viewing of your photographs a little later, you can choose your final products from Xmas cards and Calendars through to Canvases and framed prints for the lounge wall.

Printing your snaps for Xmas?
13/11/11
Having been photographing subjects for years, I am often asked my opinion on where I'd recommend my clients could go to get their holiday photos, Christmas snaps and so on printed. Choosing where to go can be like pulling teeth!
Until now, I've never recommended anyone - I've found many online and internet companies to be OK, but nothing I'd specifically say was stand-out, until now.
Photo printing by these guys is amongst some of the best and varied products I've seen recently, from Framed Photographs to Photobooks and postcards - all great quality and at great prices.
Short of professional photo printing, I think these are as good a consumer printing service as I've seen. Check 'em out.
Make sure you use this link or the Photographer code 'DHPP' when you register - it'll give you access to more products and better prices. Just a little thank-you from us...

BIMA Marketing Awards is a huge success!
11/11/11
What an amazing night! The British Interactive Media Association's annual Awards event saw Fabric nightclub open its doors to over 1300 eager media agency bods keen to see just who had won one of the most hard-fought awards of the year.
Our brief was a large one - help the guests have fun with an event photography portrait studio with fun props, capture all the activity of the award presentations and snap the winners with their cherished gongs, and do 'something to help the awards become the most interactive ever'!
So, the team set to putting together four separate photographic activities, printing photos for the guests throughout the night, and sending images to Flickr and Twitter throughout the night, helping generate the biggest Social Media buzz of any awards ceremony ever (as far as we know) - Along with the Social Media team at SoAmpd we tweeted so much, even Twitter struggled to keep up! We even sent each guest we saw an innovative piece of personalised art online to commemorate the night!
By 3am, we were packing up, slightly stunned by the busy evening just passed, and buzzing from the great music, entertainment and superb 'up for it' attitude of all the guests! The Chair of BIMA was extremely pleased with the evening, praising the photo team as having 'excelled in... innovation and professionalism' - and we were having fun too!

A photoshoot for Art lovers
05/11/11
Whilst the Queens Park Art Centre entertained art and craft lovers at their Annual fair, we gave visitors the opportunity to have a portrait shoot ready for Christmas! As always, we came prepared with various props and backgrounds, and took a number of Xmassy photos of kids with our superb Santa hat! As always, we had a varied range of visitors. And, as is par for the course, a few energetic subjects too, but a combination of fun props and chocolate soon brought them round! A fun day!
Putting on the Style!
31/10/11
We had a great evening supporting Style Magazine on Friday night at their superb Masked Ball in aid of the Eve Appeal.
A few hundred guests arrived at Whittlebury Park in their fantastic ball gowns and glamorous masks, ready for an evening of food, drink, a fashion show and of course a little dancing! We held court at the event portrait photography studio, capturing great portraits of the guests as they enjoyed their evening. With couples and several business in attendance, the guests were certainly varied, but they were all determined to have a great night out! Our symathies were with one poor chap who had booked a table for his team, only for them to break down en route! He didn't let being the only one there spoil his intentions of having a great night, and even had his photo taken to share the fun back at the office the following week!
Many thanks to all the guests, and the organisers, for making the evening a roaring success, and to House of Fraser for supporting the superb fashion show too!

It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it!
25/09/11
Hundreds of shoppers gathered throughout the day to see the Friars Square Fashion Show, put on as part of the 'Wear it Pink' Breast Cancer awareness day. As 5 beautiful girls and one lucky man showed off new clothing ranges as diverse as chunky jumpers from Burtons to skimpy undies from La Senza, I sited myself at the end of the catwalk, catching every pout, turn and pose throughout the morning! Working next to me as I captured some stunning fashion photographs was the Bucks TV videographer, and I'm sure we did nothing to help the models strut their stuff without distraction! Still, I think the gang of 10 teenage boys behind me would agree, the shows were a great hit!
